DESCRIPTION This variant is also sometimes referred to as an oil-flooded compressor or oil-injected compressor. However, the technical name is oil-lubricated. Oil-lubricated rotary screw compressors inject oil into the compression chamber. This oil cools and lubricates the compressor element. It also helps to remove heat from the compression process and helps to reduce leakage in the compression chamber. The principle of operation of a basic rotary screw compressor is that the male and female rotors rotate in opposite directions, which causes air to be sucked between them. As the air passes through the rotors, the reduction of the space between the rotors and their housings causes the air to be compressed.
