DESCRIPTION This optical device looks at the objects to be sorted as they fall from the conveyor. This will then determine whether the product is to be accepted or rejected, based on the levels of light reflected from the product back to the optical sensors. The sorting grade is determined by the application, set points and delay controls in the Control Panel. These controls set the sensitivity of the machine, the color of the product to be sorted / saved and the time allowed for the product to fall in front of the reject unit. Once a bad product is detected, the electronic unit times the objects progress until it is positioned correctly before the reject unit. Each electronic Camera unit comprises of 40 optical sensing devices and 2 banks of L.E.D.’s which emit light at the product to be sorted. The ejection unit consists of 40 cylinders and high-speed ejectors or levers that operate using compressed air. The sorter uses two cameras that inspect the product from above and below. It inspects the product as it falls from the conveyor belt so that, while it is falling, the two cameras examine each object. During this examination, the sorter looks for defects in the object and other materials. If an object is defective or the cameras detect other materials, they send a signal to the ejectors to eject that object from the main production line and pass it to another line for processing or disposal.
